Skiathos Airport and Port to Your Hotel: Taxi, Bus or Hire Car
Updated October 20, 2026 · 4 min read
You do not need a transfer booked in advance on Skiathos. The airport is about 2 km from Skiathos Town, there are taxis at arrivals, and a public bus links the airport, the town and the south coast. A hire car is the choice for the beaches the bus does not reach.
From the airport
- Taxi: the ride to town takes 5 to 10 minutes. Travel sites quote roughly €8 to €10; ask the driver for the price before you set off, since we found no official tariff.
- Bus: the operator lists a line between the port and the airport every 30 minutes from 6:45 am to 11:15 pm, taking 5 to 10 minutes. Tickets cost €2 or €3 depending on the route. Check the current timetable on the operator’s site, because a late arrival can fall outside it.
From the port
The island has no direct ferry from Athens. Ferries run from Volos, Agios Konstantinos and Mantoudi in northern Evia, with seasonal summer links from Thessaloniki. From Athens you reach Volos or Evia by car or bus first, or fly: the flight takes about 40 minutes.
From the port, the bus to Koukounaries takes about 30 minutes, with departures every 15 minutes from 6:45 am, at €2 or €3. If your hotel is on the south coast, that line is probably your transfer.
When a hire car is worth comparing
The bus covers the main road from the port to Koukounaries and the airport. It does not take you down the dirt tracks to Banana Beach, and the stops are fixed. If you want to move on your own timetable, compare hire cars for Skiathos. Check the excess and the fuel policy in the booking before you pay; we cannot give those figures for you.
Moving on to Skopelos
If you continue to the next island, the one-way fast ferry between Skiathos and Skopelos lists €28.56 per person, 1 hour, 4.3 stars from 27 reviews. The Skopelos and Alonissos day trip is the other way to see it, and the beaches are described in the best beaches on Skiathos.
