Skiathos with Kids: Easy Beaches, Boat Days and What to Skip

Updated October 20, 2026 · 4 min read

Shallow clear water lapping a pale sandy beach with small waves and pine shade

Skiathos suits children best on land first, with one boat day if they cope with it. The south coast has shallow sandy beaches on the bus line. The boat trips are mostly long, and that decides which ones are sensible.

Beaches for small swimmers

Koukounaries has soft white sand and shallow green water, with pines at the edge for shade, and it is organised with sunbeds. Agia Paraskevi is described as calm and shallow with tavernas along the beach. Vromolimnos has shallow water and trees for shade; one guide reports lifeguards, so ask at your hotel which beaches have them this season. Megali Ammos is close to Skiathos Town, with shallow water and tavernas, which suits a short outing. For getting there, see the best beaches on Skiathos.

Boat trips: look at the length first

The island day cruise passes the Blue Caves and stops at a white-pebbled beach for swimming. Of the round-island cruises we found on GetYourGuide it has the most reviews, but 7 to 8 hours is long for young children. The sunset cruise lasts only 3 hours. If you book one boat for a family, we would pick the Sea and Sun island day cruise only for children who sit through a long day, and the sunset cruise for everyone else, if the operator takes children (see minimum age below).

Minimum age: not in the listings

None of these listings gives a minimum age in the short description. Operators set their own limits, so read the participation rules on each booking page before you pay. Do the same for life jackets in child sizes, shade and a toilet on board; we cannot confirm them for you. For seasickness, ask a pharmacist or your paediatrician before the trip.

When it is a bad idea

Skopelos and Alonissos days run 9 hours, and the Mamma Mia day is 7: long, with a stretch on the water each way. See the Mamma Mia day from Skiathos before you commit small children to it. And a kayak trip needs children who can paddle or sit still in a boat, which only the operator can judge.
